Helpdesk Knowledge and Search functions

Are the Knowledge and Search functions on the Helpdesk really usefull? Or am I doing something wrong?

Every time I try to find information on an issue that I am having, to see if others have had the same issues and how they are resolved or to find information on my topic, I am told that "You cannot view this issue because you are not the creator of the issue".

Yea you used to be able to search for similar topics and that was a cool feature.

But that was disallowed because of the sensitive information in some of the helpdesk requests.

Just post your q's on helpdesk, they're pretty quick with an answer and I see they have more people as well. It helps if you can provide a screenshot for them ... you can upload the screenshot right into your helpdesk issue.
